echoe.

i was driving down North Broad Street this afternoon, which is always an adventure. i pulled up to Lehigh, which is one of the main east-west streets in Philly. the north side of the intersection is flanked by two large buildings that looked like they were once warehouses, now largely abandoned. they are so tall and so close together they throw the street below into perpetual shadow. as i was waiting at the light, there were a number of kids with buckets collecting donations for something or other. set up in the median was a full drum kit, and they were banging on it for all they were worth as rush hour surged around them, the sound amplified by hulking shells rising above.
